It’s Sunday and I just got back from the Laoag Public Market in Ilocos Norte province of the Philippines. Now I’m hiding in an air conditioned McDonald’s to share with you the photos I just captured in the buzzing market.
It is a combination of an outdoor and indoor market. Outdoor hawkers spread out their goods onto tarps on the road and inside the permanent structure, 4 levels of shop stalls keep their goods in a more organized fashion.
It is literally swarming with people stocking up on fresh produce and daily necessities.
It has been quite a while since I have seen so many new unknown items at a fresh market. I need a local food dictionary or interpreter to explain it all and quiet my curiosity.
Laoag public market
Plenty of fruits to satisfy all appetites
Fresh vegetables for every meal
Fresh seaweed for curious palates
As this region is known for its garlic production, piles of them can be found in the market
Covered outdoor market helps ward off the blistering sun
Fruit vendors with pyramids of fruits
Unknown item number one - looks like some type of beans
Some dried tobacco for sale
Aisle of goods for sale inside the indoor market
Proud Nimfa showcasing her fresh meats
Eggs and packages goods vendor
Sauces and hard good for sale on the top floor
A plethora of ready made sweets
Wide selection of footwear for the foot lover
Dried fish vendors with some interesting products
Plants galore for those with a green thumb
Pottery for plants and kitchen use
Colorful tarps cover the outdoor market
Have an amazing Sunday!
Hey nice street shots. Maybe we’ll cross path one day 🙂

Thank you very much for the extended tour of the market. I will probably never be in the area, but the market is a reason to be there … And if it would be only for the dried fish.
