Movies, similar to books and TV shows tell stories. Some are more thought provoking than others. Some help us with escapism. Some help us investigate new possibilities without leaving the comfort of our daily lives.

What if we are oh so comfortable in our lives that we do not realize that we are fading away into the background.

What if we are on the precipice of greatness but are too afraid to take the next step into the unknown.

What if we tried something new today.I love movies – always have, always will. On a 15-hour flight between Toronto and Hong Kong, I will watch a minimum of 5 movies. One of my ex-boyfriend shared my love of movies and we would line up for hours to see a movie at the Toronto International Film Festival. One weekend we watched 4 movies on their opening weekend, at the theater. I loved to escape, to dream, to imagine.

Recently, I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. What attracted me to this movie was the aspect of living out one’s life – not just to dream and imagine.

How many of us are so timid that we are afraid to reach out to a person we have a huge crush on?

How many of us repeatedly do things to please others and diminish or ignore what we want for ourselves?

How many of us daydream – zone out?

How many of us want to live a different life – dance to a different beat?

How many of us want to experience an adventure?

Why do we allow FEAR to create countless reasons and excuses to stop us dead on our tracks?

I don’t think anyone of us are immune to fear. I deal with fear on a regular basis. Fear can be a good thing, if it is there to reminds us to put on the seat belt in a car or to wear a bike helmet. However, when fear interferes with the possibility of living our lives to the fullest – then it is necessary to investigate its validity.

Some day it is best to take the plunge.

*** Life is about courage and going into the unknown. ***

This is one of my favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson…
“Be not the slave of your own past – plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with new self-respect, with new power, and with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.”
