Have you ever wondered what it is like to fly in the sky?!
To be in the clouds?!
To breathe in that fresh air and not just experience it through an airplane window?!
~ I have.
It is probably why I went paragliding in Nepal and parasailing in Thailand.
Maybe I was a pilot in another life. Maybe I was a bird of some sort in my past life.
Who knows the reason… I just love being in the sky!
When I skipped out on my week-long scuba diving course in Cairns, Australia, I signed up for a Hot-air balloon ride, in addition to white water rafting and a scuba diving day trip. From this I might sound like an adrenaline junkie but trust me, I’m far from it. I just like to try new things and have some fun while on the road.
Most hot air balloon rides start before dawn, a few destinations have later start times but trust me, rising into the sky along with the sun is very special. Just remember to dress properly. Early mornings in most places can be cold or cool, even though day time temperatures are baking hot. I did not think of this aspect and only wore a tank top and a pair of shorts. I fed the bugs while waiting for the crew to inflate the balloon, then went from cold to frozen as we rose higher and higher in the sky.
The wooosh sound from the propane burner is so loud, it breaks the early morning silence. As day breaks, a handful of hot air balloons takes flight.
We rose higher and higher into the sky. Rising above a layer of stratus clouds. I felt serene. Maybe the air was thin – I was very giddy inside. If I could, I would jump up and down with joy. The sunrise was gorgeous. We flew over farmlands, farm animals, kangaroos and wallabies. It was a lot of fun trying to spot the animals while on the move.
After this hot air balloon ride in Australia – I knew that there will be more on the horizon for me.
Subsequently, I have had another hot air balloon adventure flying over the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.
