On October 18th, 2008 I signed up for one of the most exciting and relaxing adventure at that point in my life – Paragliding in Pokhara, Nepal. I literally jumped out of bed with excitement!! I’ve always thought back to my time parasailing behind a speedboat in Phuket, Thailand. To me, parasailing was relaxing, yet super fun – feeling weightless and airborne, enjoying a bird’s-eye view of the world!
Some of you might be rolling your eyes and thinking why would I describe paragliding as relaxing?? My answer: To each their own – for me, I love floating in the sky, breathing the fresh crisp air. But seriously, give it a go and find out for yourself!! Now I get to kick it up a notch with paragliding – move over, parasailing! haha
Meet Jamie, my tandem paragliding pilot for the hour… He’s one of the many super experienced and fun loving people working with Frontiers Paragliding.
I lost track what elevation we rose to with the thermals that day but did we ever soar!!! Mid-flight, we came across an eagle and what happened next was hilarious!! Jamie hollered at the gliding bird and the eagle literally jumped out of its feathers. I wish I’d filmed it… here’s proof of the healthy bird, after the incident – its Alive!!!
Every time I heard Jamie’s wrist altimeter beep, my adrenaline would kick in. It was such a rush to rise higher and higher into the sky. Literally free as a bird and since I totally trusted Jamie, I just sat in the bucket seat and enjoy the scenery.
Now I get to look at my certificate, these pix and recall my memories, while looking forward to the next adventure!!
Stay tuned for my next installment of this series – My first time… !!
